Enroll in UM 101 (First-Year Experience) and join our amazing, hand-picked faculty for support and insights as you navigate the transition to college.

Transitioning from high school to college can be tough even in the best of circumstances!

Our first year experiences courses not only provide the academic resources you need to be successful in your time at UM, but they also promote the social and emotional connections that enrich your college experience.

Students who participate in first year experiences are more likely to persist into sophomore year, especially if they are first-generation students or Pell Grant–eligible students.

What is UM 101?

UM 101 is a one credit hour course designed to assist students in their transition to college.  We want our freshmen to feel a strong sense of community and to create a welcoming learning environment.  To that end, our instructors foster an active and engaging learning environment that covers topics such as:

• Academic support services
• Student groups
• Mentor relationships
• Academic advising and four-year plans

How to register for UM 101

Step 1: Log into Banner Self Service

Step 2: Click on the Student Tab

Step 3: Click on Registration

Step 4: Click on Register for Classes

Step 5: Click on the drop-down arrow to Select a Term and click on Continue

Step 6: Search for UM 101

Step 7: Click Add on the UM 101 class you want to register for

Step 8: Once you have selected your class, click on Submit

Under the Status Column, you should see Registered next to the UM 101 class you selected
